Hi guys, I hope everyone has had or is having a productive week in addition to having a safe early halloween weekend with friends, family, colleagues, poets, writers, artists , associates to varying degrees. As usual I've been busy with my art classes and other projects which I've often mentioned in my other posts. I Have some stuff in the works, and also, I'll be reviewing a special screening of Doctor Strange two days before its release date, which I'm as excited as any genuine comic book fan, Marvel fan, MCU fan, casual movie lover and genuine fan of cool , conceptual stories. But that's not important right now, what's important is the reviews that I made sure to post for those interested in my thoughts on the comics mentioned. I've enjoyed some of these recent reads, Unfortunately I didn't to get a chance to review The Flash issue 9, but I'll be reading it on my down time as a fan who likes Joshua Williams run thus far since it began during the current DC Rebirth line. So, to cut to the chase, here are the comics I've been reviewing for this week, I hope you enjoy my thoughts on the issue, and I hope for my fellow readers, I hope you guys also enjoy the comics that I've been reading as well. Even If you're not fond of certain said runs, writers, characters, or stories, feel free to engage in conversation. I'm interested to hear your thoughts as much as my own. Any who, here the comics that I reviewed:
Detective Comics # 943 (DC Comics) Batman related title : http://fanboyfactor.com/2016/10/comic-review-detective-comics-943-dc-comics/
Action Comics #966 (DC Comics) Superman related title :http://fanboyfactor.com/2016/10/comic-review-action-comics-966/
Bloodshot USA #1 (Valiant) http://fanboyfactor.com/2016/10/comic-review-bloodshot-u-s-a-1-valiant/
These are the titles I've reviewed. I'm really digging Dan Jurgen's Action Comics as much as I am Patrick Gleason and Tomasi's current Superman title. In addition Tynion lV is really continuing his Detective Comics with great strides, balancing out the Bat Family members (new and old) in such an organic way that makes it as refreshing, mysterious, suspenseful, and fun. Bloodshot has been by Jeff Lemire who as of late, has been one of my favorite writers as of late, especially based on his work on Moon Knight, and Old Man Logan. I may not dig his Extraordinary X-men run as much as those other titles, but its okay, just not as strong as those two titles, especially Old Man Logan. Despite this, Lemire has an extensive resume and he's making great progress with most of the titles he's been writing for other companies. I hope he manages to continue his fun work on Bloodshot as he is with Old Man Logan. At the end of the day, my opinion is my opinion, you may like what I reviewed, you may not, at the end of the day, it's good to find things that we as readers and as individuals can talk about, and maybe even diplomatically disagree with, but have a reasonable conversation seeing where each of us as readers, or up and coming writers and illustrators are coming from.
You may like everything X-men but not Brian Bendis's run ( I know I don't but he's a great writer when he is mainly writing solo characters more than group characters. Although his Avengers run was cool give or take how you prefer the Avengers). Point is, this is a medium, and an extension of literary medium that is at the moment making good strides, and whether or not this era of comics will come to pass and take a back seat like it once did before, no matter what, a good story regardless of any medium is a good story. Be it film, play, script, novel, comic book, comic strip, videogame, tv show, etc. If an audience can find a way to connect with a story or have a narrative that can change their perception on life, or inspire ideas of their own, or even take people out of their misery for 13 episodes per binge or two hours or even 10 minutes, it means a lot. Human history, mythology are all bridged on stories, and despite all of the world's cultural, political, economical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual differences, we all as people and readers have similar experiences or story beats that are portrayed. Anywho, enjoy your halloween weekend, drive safely, drink safely, be around good and positive company, and enjoy some good reads folks. Enjoy and I'll see ya around next week with more reviews, and other projects that are in the works.
