Marvel is not to be messed with . I respect and love Marvel and DC equally. As a long time comic book fan and aspiring comic book illustrator and writer, I have to say, that not only did I enjoy the road to this film, but the work that the Russo brothers have done creating the story and balance for Captain America :Civilwar was phenomenal. This is a crowning achievement and I put this movie in my top 5 list of marvel studio films. Obviously it'll change in the coming years especially after phase 3 (Infinity War part 1 and part 2). But so far, Ironman 1, Captain America: First Avenger, Winter Solider , The Avengers and Civil War. Let it be known that casual viewers will enjoy this film and the themes that are presented, but at this point, it is required that viewers watch the other 12 marvel studio films before seeing this movie to get a full engaging experience that they will truly appreciate.
Everyone in the film had enough screen time to shine : From Cap, Panther, Bucky , Falcon , Widow, Antman, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Hawkeye, Sharon Carter, and especially Spider-Man. This film really did a phenomenal job in terms of storytelling, character development , and depth. At this point, I would spoil the film, but I won't. I won't even write a spoiler review. All I will say is that , every scene improves on the last. I don't know what more I could say other than that Captain America has the most perfect trilogy that rivals the Dark Knight Nolan Trilogy.
What's great is we have seen Steve Rogers develop as a character from Captain America: First Avenger, The Avengers, The Winter Solider, Age of Ultron and Civil War, really showed Steve Rogers develop from being a young , eager man willing to do his duty to serve his country, to waking up after 75 years trying to adjust to the modern world and technology. Rogers ends up becoming weary of the government that he thought was on the right side due to be infiltrated by the very enemy he was sworn to fight (AKA Hydra). Steve went through a lot and as the audiences that we are, we've been through one hell of a journey for the marvel cinematic universe. I love this film, if there are flaws which I'm sure they are, there wasn't any for me to see after my first two viewings. With the Russo Brothers in charge of helming Avengers Infinity War part 1 and 2, there is no doubt that they will handle it with careful hands. I liked batman v superman despite its flaws. The only problem is, it had really noticing everyone flaws that at times took me out of the film.
The movie is different in terms of tone and universe. But marvel has shown time and again, whether it be an adventure, comedy, space adventure, political thriller , that they can display a pallet of tonal variety that is unmatched by far. Personally, I wished my friend Chris K.Brown who passed away due to cancer and pneumonia (back in October of 2014) had lived long enough to see this film. I remember he would say that he was on Tony Stark's side while I was on Cap's side as we read the mark Millar /Steve Dillion Civil War comic when it was published in 2005-2006.
Seeing this movie reminds me why I enjoy life and the impact it had on myself and the friends that I've come to know growing up through the content that brought us all together. I can't wait for what they do next. Until then, like Stan Lee, excelsior !!
